Cookies Policy

This policy sets out how our Platform uses cookies.

What are cookies and how are they used?

A cookie is a small file of letters and numbers, which often includes an anonymous unique identifier. When you visit a website, that site's computer asks your computer for permission to store this file in a part of the hard drive of your computer specifically designated for cookies. Cookies contain information that is transferred to your computer's hard drive. Each website can send its own cookie to your browser if your browser's preferences allow it. However, in order to protect your privacy, your browser only permits a website to access the cookies it has already sent to you, not the cookies sent to you by other sites.

We use cookies for the following purposes:

1. Functionality - to recognize you when you return to our the Platform. This enables us to personalize our content for you, greet you by name and remember your preferences (for example, your choice of language or region).

2. Authentication - to allow the Platform to “remember” that you logged in as a member and provide you with member-only functions.

3. Analytical - to allow the Platform to analyse user behavior on an aggregate and anonymized level so that we can improve the site. We store information such as internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, operating system, date/time stamp, and clickstream data. We may combine this automatically collected log information with other information we collect about you. This helps us to improve the way our Platform works, for example, by ensuring that users are finding what they are looking for easily.

4. Advertising/Behavioral Targeting and Re-Targeting - to allow the Platform and third party advertisers to track your browsing behaviour across the site and serve advertising based on that behaviour. We will use this information to make Platform and the advertising displayed more relevant to your interests. We may also share this information with third parties for this purpose

5. Marketing - to allow the Platform to adjust its marketing strategies to user interests and to report on the success of campaigns.

Interest-based advertising

Interest based advertising means using behavioural information about a person online to show them advertising more likely to be of interest to them. It doesn’t mean that you receive more advertising- just that what you see is more likely to be appropriate. For example, if you are browsing SUVs with cookies enabled, we may serve you with an SUV advert where you would have seen a small car advert.

The information the Platform collects via cookies may be linked to other information we hold about a user, compiling a complete profile about our users’ browsing, purchasing and other activities. This data may be used by us to provide personalized offers, marketing and advertising- including advertising across devices linked to the same IP address, or by third parties. Data may be shared with advertisers for these purposes.

We partner with a third party to either display advertising on our Platform or to manage our advertising on other sites. Our third party partner may use technologies such as cookies to gather information about your activities on the Platform and other sites in order to provide you advertising based upon your browsing activities and interests for the purposes of analytics, attribution, and reporting. For example, our partners may deliver an ad to you in your web browser based on a purchase you made in a physical retail store. Cookie data and other data may be sold, licensed or otherwise provided to third parties via advertising exchanges or other data sharing platforms for this purpose.

Your cookie options

You can change your cookie preferences for all websites by changing your browser settings. Most browsers automatically accept cookies so you may need to actively delete or block the cookies. If you wish to know more how to delete or block cookies please visit www.allaboutcookies.org for instructions.

If you reject the use of cookies, some Platform functions may not work properly. If you continue to use the Platform without deleting or rejecting cookies, you agree that we can place these cookies on your device.

If you don’t want to block all cookies, you can opt out of most personalized online advertising via http://www.aboutads.info/choices and http://networkadvertising.org/. These opt outs are device-specific, so remember to do it from all of your devices. These methods also rely on the use of “opt out” cookies themselves thus please remember that if you reset your cookies or use a browser such as Safari which blocks third party cookies, your opt out preferences can’t be “seen”.

None of the actions above will prevent contextual advertising which is the serving of adverts best suited for the context of the type of website you are visiting e.g. if you click on an editorial piece reviewing SUVs, you are more likely to see SUV adverts on that page.
